It's Saturday morning, Miles is taking his morning nap, Jared if off for the day, I have been up since before 5, and I have gotten NOTHING done. Jared left at 6, and I have been spending my time trying to stay awake and keep my groggy eyes on Miles. Blah. I have been waiting and waiting for today to come. Jared participated in a three gun competition about twice a year. This year he has been obsessing over it. I think it is because when we were in San Francisco it was hard for him to get out and pratice. Also this year he invited a friend, his father, his brother, and my father. He was trying to get in pratice for himself, and make sure they were able to pratice too. He has said that when this is over, he is taking a bit of a break though. I can't wait. I have to come up with something to do to get out of the house and have Jared watch Miles. It is his turn now.

Last Sunday we went to look at boats and tried out dad's new boat. Because Jared's birthday is this Tuesday and he has the competition this weekend, he took off last Wednesday through this Tuesday. On Wednesday we got out and got a boat. The weather was less than ideal but we decided to get out and try out the new boat anyway. Lets just say that trip was short, possibly less than well advised, but fun. Thursday Jared and his dad went out to pratice for the competition this weekend. When he got back my parents called and asked if we wanted to take the boats out. Out we went, and we had fun. We were only out for a while but we got a bit of a late start for Miles.

When we bought the boat the store only had one of the paddles that we wanted. So, on Friday we finally found another and went out to get one. Of course after we had the other paddle we had to get out and try it again! It was much better having two paddles in the tandem (duh!). We went about 2.5 miles this time and really enjoyed it. Miles hangs out in the back cockpit with Jared. He really enjoys watching the ducks and dipping his hand in the water.

Tomorrow is mother's day and my father-in-law's birthday. Two days later it is Jared's birthday. Every year we do a family get together. This year we are having it here (I should be cleaning now). After we will all head over to the lake that is about 4 miles south of our place and take both of my parents boats as well as ours and have a little lake day. I think it'll be fun.

Sorry there are no pictures of the boat or Miles in the boat. We have been doing pretty wuick trips so far. Hopefully I will have some good ones after the weekend!

Hope you have a good one!

It was a 199 picture weekend

Ok, today is the 5th of the month, and so far I have taken 199 pictures! That is even after forgetting my camera on Saturday.

On Friday a friend, Jessica, and I took Miles and her nephew to the zoo. We met a friend of Jessica's there with her two children. It was a lot of fun.

We got a later start than we had planned on getting and ended up not even seeing half of the zoo! Guess we'll have to go back again.

We had been talking very seriously about buying a tandem kayak before Miles was born, and put it on the back burning while I was pregnant. On our way to the zoo Jared called and asked how I was feeling about it now. I told him I was interested but wanted to do some research on taking children in kayaks. About 10 minutes later my dad called and said that he was going to do a demo day at the local lake here with several kayaks and asked if Jared and I wanted to go too. I told him we'd love to and we would be there. So Saturday he put that together for the afternoon. We went out with my mom and dad and mom watched Miles and took him to a nearby playground while we tested some out (thanks mom!). We really enjoyed it and the guy that was hosting the event knew a lot about kayaks. We told him that we wanted to get a tandem and use it with Miles who is 14 months old. He was very encouraging and gave us a lot of great advice. He also said that he did not have any tandems there that day because it was Saturday and they were all rented, but he could let us test some out during the week. We could also take Miles in the kayak with us. I was so grateful and we told him that we would email him Monday about a date. We are currently working on setting it up for this Thursday.

Sunday Jessica came back over and Jared worked on her car while I took a very luxurious Sunday morning nap! After he was finished we went to the local farmer's market to buy fruit and vegetables for the week (we like to go with at least someone else so we can split some of what we won't use before it goes bad). We asked if she wanted to go to R.E.I. with us to help with Miles while we looked at tandem kayaks and she said she'd be glad to. We went up there and while Jared and I took one down she took Miles off to find a lifevest that fit him. She brought him back over happily snugged into a bright red one. It was perfect and goes all the way up to 50lbs! We set him on the child seat in the kayak we had down. We rocked it back and forth then got out. After we were out, Miles kept rocking the boat. He loved it. A couple of girls came over and they wanted to get in too. They enjoyed playing in it more than their dad enjoyed them being in it! When I tried to get Miles out he started crying. He really liked the boat. On our way home we saw my parents and guessed that they were on their way to the same store to buy a kayak. I called dad's cell and sure enough they were. They were also very surprised that we would have guessed that as they didn't see us on the road when we saw them! They invited us to go back to the store and be with them, but Miles had just fallen asleep in the back. They then said that they were going to the lake as soon as they were finished and invited us to go there and even test drive their new boat. We agreed to that and met them there after nap time. We all had fun. Jessica brought two of her dogs and we all had fun with them and testing dad's kayak out. Mom even said that she thought she wanted one. We didn't let Miles go though.

Hope everyone had a great weekend and got a chance to enjoy some great weather. My house looks like I have been enjoying the great outdoors. I should go get some work done! I meant to post a month in review for my goals on the first but didn't get to it. I'll try to do that tomorrow.

Aprons and sewing!

I'm so excited. I found a blog called Sassy Apron Swap where they...(wait for it) Swap aprons! I found them after the last swap had started and watched until the next one. I signed up, but the deadline was over a week ago (on the day I signed up) so I had almost given up on getting a partner. Today I checked th blog agian and the partners are being emailed out! Yay! I have never done this before and I have only done one swap before too. I hope whoever gets my apron isn't dissapointed! I'm so excited it has to be a summer apron. I can't wait to pick a pattern and fabric!

Beware the Tax Man cometh

Ours are done, and I hope yours are too!

We went to my grandmother's house again this weekend. She loves spending time with Miles which is great to see. Usually weekends at her place are a quiet affair. We lounge around, read a lot, nap sometimes, and do some of her yard work so that she doesn't have to do it all. This time it was hectic. Jared and I had a class that we were attending near her place with a friend. My grandmother graciously invited the friend to stay with us this weekend too. My parents came as usual and watched Miles during the one day class. We drove out on Friday night later than we wanted to. We had to put Miles down at the house then move him, but he was sleeping poorly and took a while to go back to sleep in the car. Anyway, we arrived, had a good class (all three of us passed the two tests during the day), and we drove back on Sunday after visiting my other Grandmother who is also in the area.

One exciting thing is that Miles walked a lot more. Two weeks ago when we were there he took a few tenative steps and had no interest after returning home. This time he was taking 15 or 20 in a row and had walked a bit after coming home too!

My plants are doing well and a few blooms from the tomato plants have fallen off and tiny tomatoes have replaced them! It is exciting. My irises are blooming beautifully too! I'll have to get a photo of them.

Well, nap time is almost over. I should begin on some of the massive amounts of cleaning that I had planned on completing.

Nice weekend

We had a very nice weekend. Every weekend since we have been back in Texas has been very busy. This one was no exception other than the craziness started on Wednesday! Wednesday night Jared left for Tennessee. He left just at Miles' bedtime, and returned Thursday after bedtime. Friday he was going to work from home and we were going to have a bit of family time before we hosted a dinner for some friends here at the house. He ended up having to go in "for a couple of hours." That turned into several, which turned into him calling me at 5:30 saying that he was headed home, but had to dial back into the conference call that he had been on since 2 and he didn't know when he would be off. Sure enough he got home a little after 6 and was still on the call until just before our friends showed up at 6:30! I had to entertain Miles and clean the whole house by myself while prepping all the food that we were to make. Fortunately we were grilling so that could wait until they actually arrived! Even so, we didn't eat until late and Miles went to bed at 8:30 that night.

Saturday a friend brought her nephew over and we went to the aquarium. It was so much fun! They have a jungle theme and lots of animals in addition to regular aquarium fair. The kids really enjoyed the seal who would swim by and "scream" at them. Because we were running late leaving poor Miles skipped his afternoon nap. We had dinner plans with another family and he ended up melting down right after we finished eating. They were very gracious and understood completely. We left but he didn't fall asleep in the car so he stayed up until 8 that night.

Sunday we had no real plans and wanted to keep it that way. We ended up going to half price books and messing around there for a while then coming home and grilling again and going for a nice walk. I had read about someone making homemade soft pretzels last week and I was dying to try it! So I made up a batch of dough before we went to the bookstore and let it rise while we were gone. We made those up on the grill and they were fantastic! I can't wait to try it again.

Today the weather is supposed to be nice before beginning to rain off and on for the rest of the week. I think Miles and I are going to take advantage of it while we can. We'll go for a walk after he gets up from his nap and maybe again after Jared gets home. I weighed myself this morning and I was not too happy. :( Not too upset, but I don't want to get there either.

April

There are so many things I'd like to do this month.

I've been working from the "Sidetracked Home Executives" books for housekeeping. They have you use a card file to keep up with chores. I'd like to "stay in the box" all month long! That would be a HUGE accomplishment for me. I start off each week well, but by the end of the week I've usually blown off a bunch of tasks and generally gotten off track. Also, when you skip a card you are supposed to file it as though it has been done after making a notation on it so that you do it next time you come to it. I haven't been doing this either. Because I'm not staying with it for a long time, I'm just removing the cards that mark the day and leaving the task cards on the next day. This makes the amount to do on each day a lot. So, I really want to give it my best for a whole month and see what comes of it. After that I should know if it is the method I want to use.

As I said yesterday, I am really ready to start sewing again. There are many projects that I want to work on. This month, I'd like to begin and complete the bean bags for Madison and Nicholas. I'd also like to finish the binding for the baby blanket. This will only leave the quilting left on that project.

I want to finish decorating the kitchen and laundry rooms. I also want to hang the last of the art that we haven't put up yet.

This weekend I read about half of Exodus. I'd like to continue my daily Bible reading this month (hopefully catch up to where I should be in the Bible in a year study). My parents both said they wanted to participate in the read the Bible in a year study, but neither of them were caught up either. I read outloud in the car. I hope Jared decides to get involved too.

One last thing, I'd like to start sending Jared the daily pictures of Miles again. I had been doing well with it, but not recently.
